German integration course

There are two ways in which German courses for immigrants can be funded:

1) Federal voucher for non-EU/EEA nationals, who have signed the integration agreement

2) Wiener Sprachgutscheine for all EU/EEA nationals and their families (also from non -EU/EEA countries)

1. Federal voucher

Immigrants from non EU/EEA countries who have signed the integration agreement (NEW or OLD) receive a federal voucher for a German integration course.  The federal voucher OLD is yellow, the federal voucher NEW is blue.

Federal voucher blue (NEW integration agreement)

After participating in German integration courses and successfully passing the A2 examination at the ÖIF you will receive, with the federal voucher, 50% of the course costs refunded if you have successfully passed the examination within 18 months from issue of the federal voucher. A maximum you will receive back is 750, - €. This means that you have to finance the German integration course in advance.

Federal voucher blue (OLD integration agreement)

For Module 1:
Immigrants who have signed the OLD integration agreement and who have taken part in a literacy course (module 1), can have up to 100% of the course costs, a maximum of 375, - €, refunded by the federal government if they successfully complete module 1 within 1 year. This regulation for the OLD integration agreement is still valid until July 2012!

For Module 2:
After participating in German integration courses and successfully passing the A2 examination at the ÖIF you will receive 50% of the course costs (maximum 750, -€) refunded, if you submit the A2 language certificate within 2 years from issue of the federal voucher.

You must finance in advance both the integration course and the literacy course!

2. Wiener Sprachgutscheine (Vienna language vouchers)

The MA 17 (integration and diversity) offers language vouchers for all EU/EEA nationals and their families (also from third countries), who have since the 01.01.2011 registered for, or have received, a residents card from the Immigration Department (MA 35)

The Wiener Sprachgutscheine are issued to all affected people who have their primary residence in Vienna. The Wiener Sprachgutscheine apply for German courses in the value of 3 x 50, - € for EU/EEA nationals respectively 3 x 100, - € for family members from EU/EEA countries (non EU/EEA nationals).

The Wiener Sprachgutscheine are valid for a maximum of 30 months. Per voucher you must complete a minimum of 80 lessons of 45 minutes. At the Deutschinstitut this means that you can redeem a voucher for every second course.

If your Wiener Sprachgutscheine was issued on or respectively after the 1st July 2011 then the vouchers can be redeemed for A1 to B1 courses. If your Wiener Sprachgutscheine was issued before 1st July 2011 then you can redeem your vouchers on A1 to A2 courses.
